Baseball Sets Four Single-Season Records During 2022 Campaign

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College baseball team had one of its best seasons in recent memory in 2022, finishing the year with a 21-19 record to mark the first winning season for the Fightin' Quakers since 2005. WC also finished sixth place in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) with an 8-10 record.

The team set four single-season records for the OAC era (2001-present) while putting a plethora of individuals into the top 10 in a various statistical categories. 

A trio of Quakers - Zach Christensen, Caleb Scott and Jared Lammert - have their names enter the single season batting average record book as all three hit over a .395 clip. Christensen hit a .486 clip (36-of-74) to break the old record of .474 set bu Justin Evans in 2002. The freshman from Pataskala, Ohio, ended the season on an 11-game hitting streak including tallying multi-hit contests in eight of those games. He also tied an OAC record for stolen bases in a game with six. Scott, who hit a .402 clip (62-of-154), and Lammert, who carried a .397 batting average (60-of-151), slip in at No. 9 and No. 10 respectively.

Scott and Lammert also tallied top-10 single seasons in at bats with 154 and 151 respectively. Evan Kelsey set the program mark with 166 on the year, breaking the old mark of 157 set by Gage Bley during the 2019 season. Dominic Depa finished second on the squad with 156 at bats during his freshman season. The aforementioned Quaker quartet was also joined by Tyler Shaneyfelt to tally at least 50 hits.

Lammert and Christensen both find their names in the single season record book for triples with four and three respectively while Scott shattered the program record for RBIs in a season with 53 as the previous record was 40. Depa and senior Aaron Burns notched 38 and 32 RBIs respectively while Burns led the team in home runs (seven), edging Scott by a single long bomb.

The top of Wilmington's lineup also did its job during the 2022 season as Shaneyfelt, Lammert, Depa and Scott all scored over 35 runs while Christensen and Kelsey joined Shaneyfelt in stealing at least 20 bases.

On the mound, Aaron Boster shattered the program record strikeouts, fanning 73 batters in 72 innings to mark the first Quaker to strikeout 55 or more batters in the OAC era. The sophomore from Mason, Ohio is also in the top 10 in wins (five) and innings pitched (72.0). Finally, Shaneyfelt, who carried a 3.60 ERA, and Luke Chappie, who struck out 34 batters, will also find their names in the single season pitching record book.
