Wilmington drops two at Bishop Invitational

DELAWARE, OH – The Wilmington College volleyball team opened the 2012 season with losses to Earlham and Ohio Wesleyan in the Bishops Invitational on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University.

The Quakers were flying high in the opener against Earlham as they won the first two games by identical 25-22 scores. However, they couldn't manage to close the match. Earlham won a close 25-21 game in the third, before tying the match with a 25-14 score in game four.

Wilmington and Earlham fought to the end in the fifth and final game, but the Earlham Quakers won the game and the match by the score of 15-12.

Senior Anne Keenan (Beavercreek/Beavercreek) led Wilmington with 17 kills, while senior Sara Fisher (London/Madison Plains) added nine kills. Sophomore Ashley Miller (Arcanum/Franklin Monroe) recorded team-highs with 35 assists and 19 kills.

The second match wasn't as close as the first as Wilmington fell to the host Battlin' Bishops, 25-20, 25-12, 25-13.
Fisher had a team-high eight kills to lead the Fightin' Quakers, while Miller finished with 17 digs.

Wilmington (0-2) will take continue competing in the Bishops Invitational noon Saturday against Manchester and 2 p.m. Saturday against Denison.
