Murphy, Bolen set new school records

SPRINGFIELD, OH – Junior Marissa Bolen set a school record and is currently ranked fourth nationally in the shot put as the Wilmington College women's track and field team finished sixth in Wittenberg Tiger Invitational Friday.

Bolen (Gibsonburg, OH/Gibsonburg) won the event with a toss of 13.58 meters. She added a fifth place finish in the hammer (37.61).

Wilmington continued to rack up points in the throwing events as sophomore Lauren Stacy (Bethel, OH/Western Brown) was second in the shot put (12.13) and third in the hammer (42.97).

Freshman Megan Darst (Grove City, OH/Grove City) was eighth in the javelin (22.82). Freshman Tara Karnes (Greenfield, OH/McClain) didn't score team points in the shot put, but posted the third best distance (11.89).

Senior Tricia Steffen (Baltimore, OH/Liberty Union) won the 3000 steeplechase to record the only other victory for the Fightin' Quakers. Freshman Elizabeth Davis (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) was sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:11.35), and sophomore Hannah Rolf (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) was third in the pole vault (2.89).

A pair of runners scored for Wilmington in the 1500 as freshman Christina Paskow (Felicity, OH/Felicity Franklin) was third (5:15.35) and senior Veronica Burnam (New Richmond, OH/New Richmond) was fifth (5:24.84).

Additionally, senior Sarah Murphy (West Liberty, OH/West Liberty Salem) established a new school mark in the heptathlon while competing in the multi-event version of the All-Ohio meet at Mount Union.

Murphy finished second in three events, 100 hurdles (15.03), shot put (9.33) and 800 (2:33.37). She was third in the 200 (26.53), fourth in the javelin (28.41), fifth in the high jump (1.51) and fifth in the long jump (4.67). Her point total of 4,277 points is currently fifth nationally.

Wilmington returns to action Saturday at the All-Ohio meet hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
