Women's Track places third at Pioneer Invite

LEXINGTON, KY – The Wilmington College women's track and field team won five events and placed third in the 10-team Pioneer Invitational Saturday in the Fightin' Quakers' first outdoor meet of the season.

"Third for the women, is a strong finish and we were only a few points out of second," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "The throwers were strong again and Hannah Rolf pulled out a win in the pole vault. I like the progress many of our women are making from the indoor season into the outdoor season."

Wilmington scored had 18 scorers in the events, 10 of which came in the three throwing events.

Sophomore Lauren Stacy (Bethel, OH/Western Brown) won the discus (38.37), finished second in the hammer (43.18) and fourth in the shot put (11.89). Junior Marissa Bolen (Gibsonburg, OH/Gibsonburg) added a victory in the shot put (13.05), while finishing third in the hammer (41.92) and eighth in the discus (34.34).

Freshman Eleanor Wildey (New Richmond, OH/New Richmond) brought home a pair of seventh-place finishes in the discus (34.51) and the hammer (34.81). Freshman Tara Karnes (Greenfield, OH/McClain) finished third in the shot put (11.99), and Megan Darst (Grove City, OH/Grove City) was sixth in the shot put (10.94).

Senior Sarah Murphy (West Liberty, OH/West Liberty Salem) scored in three events, including a win in the 400 hurdles (1:08.25). She was third in the 100 hurdles (16.29) and fifth in the long jump (4.52). Senior Tricia Steffen (Baltimore, OH/Liberty Union) won the 5000 (19:07.12) and was second in the 1,500 (5:01.48). Freshman Christina Paskow (Felicity, OH/Felicity Franklin) was eighth in the 1,500 (5:14.50).

Sophomore Hannah Rolf (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) won the pole vault (2.85) and sophomore Angela Dorsett (Pittsburgh, PA/West Mifflin) added a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (9.61).

Wilmington returns to action Saturday at the Cedarville Invitational.
