Murphy sets school record, scores in six events

MARIETTA – Senior Sarah Murphy won two events and scored in four others as the Wilmington College women's track and field team finished second in the five-team Ohio Athletic Conference South Split Meet.

Murphy (West Liberty, OH/West Liberty Salem) set the school record in winning the 55 meter hurdles (8.74), and won the 200 meter dash (26.83). She joined sophomore Angela Dorsett (Pittsburgh, OH/West Mifflin), Elizabeth Davis (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) and Hannah Rolf (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) to place second in the 200 meter relay (1:53.95), and then was joined by Dorsett, Davis and freshman Christina Paskow (Felicity, OH/Felicity Franklin) to place second in the 400 meter relay (4:42.17)

As she prepares for the pentathlon in next week's All-Ohio event, Murphy participated in three other events – scoring in two of them. Murphy was second in the high jump (1.44 meters), third in the long jump (4.9 meters) and was eighth in the shot put (9.78 meters).

"I am really happy with the girls finish," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "We have a small team, but we have some really strong competitors. Sarah Murphy continues a really successful season, breaking the school record in 55 meter hurdles and winning the 200."

In addition to the relays, Dorsett also scoring in the 55 meter dash (sixth, 7.96) and triple jump (fifth, 9.5 meters).

Senior Tricia Steffen (Baltimore, OH/Liberty Union) won the 5000 meter run (18:54.28) and was second in the 1000 meter run (3:17.03).

While Murphy was racking up points, the Wilmington throwers were putting on a points display of their own.

Sophomore Lauren Stacy (Bethel, OH/Western Brown) won her third straight weight throw event, this time with a toss of 15.6 meters. She added a third place finish in the shot put (11.75 meters). Junior Marissa Bolen (Gibsonburg, OH/Gibsonburg) won the shot put (12.75 meters) and finished fourth in the weight throw (13.8 meters).

Freshmen Tara Karnes (Greenfield, OH/McClain) and Megan Darst (Grove City, OH/Grove City) scored with fourth and fifth place finishes in the shot put with launches of 11.75 meters and 11.21 meters, respectively.

Wilmington returns to full-team competition February 14 at the All-Ohio meet, hosted by Otterbein.
