Murphy, Stacy set school records

WESTERVILLE – Two school records fell Saturday as the Wilmington College women's track and field team finished sixth of 15 teams at the Otterbein Invitational.

"I was happy with the results from our meet tonight," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "(It was a) very competitive meet for our first meet of the season."

Sophomore transfer Lauren Stacy (Bethel, OH/Western Brown), in her first meet for Wilmington, set the school's weight throw record (15.97). She finished third in the event and her throw currently ranks her ninth nationally. Stacy added a seventh place finish in the shot put (11.67).

Senior Sarah Murphy (West Liberty, OH/West Liberty Salem) established the 60 meter hurdles record by running 9.3 seconds in the preliminaries. She finished third in the finals, running 9.58 seconds. Murphy added a seventh place finish in the 500 (1:26.03).

Wilmington's throwers turned in great performances for the Fightin' Quakers. Junior Marissa Bolen (Gibsonburg, OH/Gibsonburg) placed fourth in the shot put (12.68 meters) and seventh in the weight throw (13.64 meters). Freshman Tara Karnes (Greenfield, OH/McClain) was eighth in the shot put (11.23 meters).

"We have a really strong group of throwers on the girls side, and I am excited to see what they can do," said Combs.

Sophomore Angela Dorsett (Pittsburgh, PA/West Miflin) capped Wilmington's scoring with a seventh place finish in the triple jump (9.49 meters).

Wilmington returns to action 11 a.m. Saturday at the Denison Invitational.
