Lady Quakers place fifth

NEW CONCORD – The Wilmington College women's track and field team won two events Saturday at the 2013 Ohio Athletic Conference West meet. The Lady Quakers finished fifth in the meet.

"I thought we competed very well today," said head coach Ron Combs. "We were just outnumbered. We can compete with a few schools in the conference setting. We just don't have the numbers to compete in a five-team meet."

Sophomore Jenna Parlette (Miamisburg, OH/Miamisburg) won the 1500 meters with a time of 5:02.66 and senior Liz Delehanty (Euclid, OH/Villa Angela St. Joseph's) was victorious in the pole vault with the distance of 10-08.00.

For the second consecutive week, freshman Marissa Bolen (Gibsonburg, OH/Gibsonburg) broke the school's outdoor shot put record. With her final attempt, Bolen launched a distance of 39-06.50 to finish second in the event.

Sophomore Sarah Murphy (West Liberty, OH/West Liberty Salem) barely lost in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing second in three tenths of a second with a time of 1:08.40. She was also fourth in the 100 meter hurdles, covering the distance in 16.77. Freshman Kelsie Redway (Toledo, OH/Whitmer) was second in the high jump with a jump of 4-11.75.

Wilmington travels to Louisville, KY on April 6 to compete in the Bellarmine Invitational.
