Women's swimming falls on senior day

In the final home swimming meet for five athletes, the Wilmington College women's swimming team fell to Mount Union Saturday, 130-75, in Ohio Athletic Conference action at the Wilmington Natatorium.

"We had five senior swimmers today, and they all swam really well today," said Wilmington College head coach Trip Breen. "This was a day about our seniors and watching the team pull around them and fight for them is kind of fun. It's about the little things we are starting to pull together. We all need rest, but can't afford to rest for a couple more weeks. I am really pleased with how both teams swam today."

Seniors Addie Roberts (Franklin, OH/Franklin), Nicholle Fiore (Dayton, OH/Northridge), Jenny Geers (Pickerington, OH/North), Caroline Kruczynski (Grove City, OH/Central Crossing) and Chelsea Simpson (Stow, OH/Stow) all contributed in their final home meet.

Kryczynski won the 100 meter freestyle (1:04.68) and was second in the 50 meter freestyle (29.09), while Geers won the 200 meter individual medley (2:42.36) and 100 meter backstroke (1:15.39). Roberts finished second in the 400 meter freestyle (5:01.85) and third in the 800 meter freestyle (10:08.98).

Fiore was fourth in the 100 meter freestyle (1:16.44) and Simpson was sixth in the 800 meter freestyle (11:21.14).

Junior Rachel Drake (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) brought home a win in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:22.73).

"Both men's and women's team really are putting the little things together," said Breen. "There are still some things we have to improve upon. People are really starting to race well, and it's about racing with confidence."

Wilmington travels to Tiffin Saturday to face the Dragons.
