DELAWARE – The Wilmington College women's swimming team knocked off two NCAA Division II schools, and finished second of six teams in the Corbiere-Merion Invitational at Ohio Wesleyan University.

"Finishing second is pretty remarkable considering we got stuck in an ice storm and missed the first five events," said Wilmington head coach Trip Breen. "It was great finish for us."

A two-hour trip to Delaware took more than six hours as icy highways wreaked havoc on traffic.

Senior Caroline Kruczynski (Grove City, OH/Central Crossing) finished second in the 100 and 200 backstrokes as the Wilmington senior class swam well collectively. She went 1:03.61 in the 100, and 2:15.42 in the 200. Kruczynski and senior Jenny Geers competed in the 100 backstroke without the opportunity to warm up. Geers added a nice swim in the 200 individual medley (2:28.71).

Senior Addie Roberts (Franklin, OH/Franklin) finished third in the mile (19:33.15) and fifth in the 100 freestyle (59.35).

"It's two different energy systems," said Breen of swimming both long distance and sprints. "She is really managing well and training well."

Breen added that senior Chelsea Simpson had a great swim in the mile (21.14.30).

Sophomore Elyse Spraul (Cincinnati, OH/Mount Notre Dame) couldn't swim in the open 100 butterfly because of travel, swam an in-season best in the 100 butterfly (1:07.83) in the 400 medley relay.

The Fightin' Quakers return to the pool at Defiance on Saturday, January 10.
