Goal in 87th minute dooms WSOC

BEXLEY – Capital scored in the 87th minute to lift the Crusaders past the Wilmington College women's soccer team, 1-0, Wednesday in Ohio Athletic Conference action at Bernlohr Stadium.

"I thought we defended well up until that point," said Wilmington head coach Steve Spirk. "We just didn't put enough pressure on them. They were able to play the ball wide, and then served it to the middle and they were able to finish."

With the loss, the Fightin' Quakers fall to 6-8-1 overall, 0-4 in the OAC, while Capital improves to 10-3-1 overall, 3-0-1 in the OAC.

The late goal erased what had been a quality performance by senior Taylor Franklin (Delaware, OH/Rutherford B.  Hayes), who turned away the first six shots she faced before CU tallied the game-winner.  Franklin fell to 6-6 on the season.

Senior Camille Gentile (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) had five of Wilmington's 12 shots and two of the Fightin' Quakers' three shots on goal. Sophomore Taylor Scott (Lynchburg, OH/Lynchburg-Clay) recorded the other shot on goal.

"We had some chances, but we just didn't finish them," said Spirk. "We played well tonight, we just didn't take care of our chances."

Wilmington hosts league-leading Baldwin Wallace 7 p.m. Saturday at Williams Stadium.
