Women's Soccer falls to Ohio Northern, 3-0

The Wilmington College women's soccer team dropped its third straight game, falling to Ohio Northern 3-0 Wednesday at Williams Stadium in Ohio Athletic Conference action.

Wilmington falls to 0-2 in OAC action, 6-6 overall, while Ohio Northern improved to 1-1 in league action and 5-5-1 overall.

It didn't take long for Ohio Northern to take the lead, scoring in the game's seventh minute. The Polar Bears added another goal 10 minutes later to take a 2-0 lead.

"It was bad defending that caused the first two goals," said Wilmington head coach Steve Spirk. "We let the player in behind us, gave a ball away for the first two goals. We came out the second half much harder. If we come out to start the game that way, maybe its 0-0, and you have a chance to win. You can't give up two early goals like we did, and win in the OAC. We have to do a better job of preparing before the game starts, and right now, we aren't getting the job done."

The Fightin' Quakers were limited to six shots, two each by seniors Angela Phillips (Union, OH/Northmont) and Camille Gentile (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg). Gentile had the only shot on frame.

Senior Taylor Franklin (Delaware, OH/Rutherford B. Hayes) made five saves in her return to the lineup.

WC travels to John Carroll 7 p.m. Saturday for another OAC meeting.
