Gentile named OAC Student-Athlete of the Month

If you ask Camille Gentile how tall she is, the diminutive midfielder quickly replies with five-feet. However, when pressed – she comes clean.

"Technically, I am 4-11 and three-quarters," said the senior soccer player. "I can't win the balls in the air, so I feel when the ball is on the ground. I have to make up (for being short) in other ways. I have to make my runs, making passes, having good touches and play defense. I feel I am leader on and off the field. I am demanding on the field, but people can come talk to me."

But her contributions - on and off the field - outdistance her size by miles. Gentile is a two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree and will be counted by the Fightin' Quakers as they look to qualify for the OAC tournament for the eighth time in nine years.

In three seasons, Gentile has started 56 of 59 possible games – including all 39 games over the last two years. She is the top returning scorer for Wilmington this season, and has 10 goals with two assists in her career.

"Camille has been a 90-minute player for four years," said Wilmington head coach Steve Spirk. "Having her healthy, confident, and offensive-minded is very important – and that is where she is right now."

While Gentile has been a key force for the women's soccer program, she is also accomplished away from the pitch. She sports a 3.5 grade point average in Biology, while serving as a supplemental instructor in Anatomy and Physiology.

"School is very important," said Gentile. "I feel if I don't have good grades, I failed myself. I really feel my future really relies on grades."

Essentially, Gentile leads a group of students from those glasses and assists them gaining a thorough knowledge of the course. The ability to help other students is simply paying it forward for her.

"It teaches me the importance of helping others," she said. "It gives me satisfaction and helps me grow as a person. People shared with me, and helped me, so I want to pass along what I know to others to help them grow as well."
