Women's Soccer earns NSCAA Academic Award

KANSAS CITY - The Wilmington College women's soccer team was named a recipient of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 academic year, the organization announced.

"We are very proud of our academic achievements this season in the OAC with six players receiving the honor and having won the Team Academic Award by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America again this season with a Team GPA over 3.0," said head coach Steve Spirk. "We have been winning this award since 1997.   Our program continues to set high standards both in the classroom and on the soccer field."

Wilmington is one of 182 teams nationally in which both teams earned the award. A total of 862 college soccer teams posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award.

The Quakers, coached by Steve Spirk, finished the year with a 3.08 cumulative GPA. It marks the sixth straight year and 11th overall, Wilmington has won the team academic distinction from the NSCAA.

Founded in 1941 and based in Kansas City, Kan., the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) is a non-profit organization with a mission to educate coaches, encourage excellence and serve the soccer community.

The NSCAA is the world's largest soccer coaches' organization with members at every level of the game. The membership is primarily made up of coaches, but also includes administrators, referees and others in the soccer industry. The NSCAA provides its members ways to enhance the game of soccer by providing a national education program, interaction and networking opportunities, and membership benefits.
