Junior Camille Gentile scored on a rebound of a saved penalty kick to lift the Wilmington College women's soccer team to the 2-1 victory Wednesday over Capital in Ohio Athletic Conference action.

It was the third goal on the season for Gentile (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg). The penalty kick was set up by a hand ball in the box in the 79th minute.

Thanks to Mount Union's 1-0 loss to John Carroll, the Fightin' Quakers are tied at 3-1 atop the OAC standings with Baldwin Wallace and Mount Union. Wilmington travels to BW 4:30 p.m. Saturday in a match-up of first place teams. Capital and Ohio Northern are a half-game back at 2-1.

"I think we had a good plan and I thought we executed it well," said head coach Steve Spirk. "We finally finished our chances tonight. We rebounded from our loss the way good, tough teams are supposed to."

Wilmington dominated the first 30 minutes of the game, and was finally rewarded in the 27th minute. Senior Paij Shelton (Hillsboro, OH/Hillsboro) beat her defender down the wing and played a ball into the middle of the box where a sliding Sammy Koerner (Fairfield, OH/Archbishop Badin) was able to poke the ball past the charging goalkeeper.

Seemingly almost as immediate as the Fightin' Quakers scored, UMU stepped up the pressure. The Purple Raiders managed the equalizer in the 40th minute. Mount Union continued to control the match in the second half, but couldn't scratch across another goal as freshman Grace Hignite (Clayton, OH/Northmont) made a couple dazzling saves to keep the score tied.

"In the second half Capital was all over us and (Hignite) made several saves to keep us in the game," said Spirk.

Hignite (7-3-1) made seven saves in playing all 90 minutes.
