WC opens OAC action with shutout

NEW CONCORD, OH – The Wilmington College women's soccer team unleashed a season-high 29 shots Saturday, scoring three times in recording a 3-0 victory over Muskingum to open Ohio Athletic Conference action.

It marks the seventh time in eight games, including five straight, the Fightin' Quakers managed at least 20 shots. While the Wilmington offense was up to its normal tricks, the defense was also sticking to its norm. Muskingum became the seventh straight opponent to be held to less than six shots, recording just three shots.

Freshman Grace Hignite didn't face a single shot Saturday to pick up her second career shutout. It's the fourth Wilmington shutout this season.

Senior Jenni Marck got the scoring underway with a goal in the sixth minute with senior Rachel Gutowski getting the assist. Junior Brooke Lamb headed home a corner kick to give WC the 2-0 lead in the first half.

Senior Bonnie Grace wrapped up the scoring by cleaning up a loose ball, and beating the goalkeeper in the 55th minute.

Wilmington (7-3-1) stays in Ohio Athletic Conference action, hosting Heidelberg 7 p.m. Tuesday at Charlie Gilhart Field.
