WLAX falls to Hanover, 11-5

HANOVER, IN – The Wilmington College women's lacrosse team allowed six of the game's first seven goals, and fell to Hanover Sunday, 11-5, in non-conference action.

"Defensively, we worked hard and held them back as much as possible," said Wilmington head coach Brett Yenger. "We need to tighten up little things and avoid fruitless fouls. Offensively, we need to be more aggressive and take smarter shots, but we have the spacing and concepts we need to be successful. We have some fine tuning to work on but a lot of potential going into this week."

Wilmington scored the final goal of the first half, and then junior Rachel Routzong (Urbana, OH/Urbana) scored two goals in the early parts of the second half to pull Wilmington to within three goals (7-4) with more than 20 minutes remaining.

However, the Panthers ended the scoring with four of the game's final five goals.

In addition to Routzong's two goals, freshman Jenni Caporale (Louisville, KY/Ballard), sophomore Nikki Northern (Dayton, OH/Chaminade Julienne) and junior Stephanie Belz (Gahanna, OH/Lincoln) scored individual goals for Wilmington.

Junior Katie Bennett (Newport, OH/Frontier) finished with eight saves in the game.

Wilmington (1-4) hosts Thomas More 7 p.m. Wednesday in non-conference action at Williams Stadium.
