SEASON PREVIEW: Women's Lacrosse

The Wilmington College women's lacrosse team enters its third season as a program in 2015, and will be looking to see the fruits of their labor spur a couple victories.

"We have a great opportunity this year as a team," said Wilmington head coach Brett Yenger. "We've brought in some fresh, young talent as well as returning all but two seniors from last year which should make the difference in our season. With bigger numbers and more experienced players this should be a breakthrough year for us."

The two graduated seniors happened to be the top two scorers as they combined for 57 of the team's 86 goals and 11 of the team's 13 assists.

Sophomore Kiki Hall (Westerville, OH/Central) started all 14 games last season and is the top returning scorer with 16 goals, while senior Loryn Bryson (Carlisle, OH/Carlisle) added seven markers a season ago.

Freshman Jenni Caporale (Louisville, KY/Ballard) will provide offensive production for the Fightin' Quakers.

"We are taking our strategies and schemes to the next level and I'm seeing results that elevate our level of play," said Yenger. "As a result of the preparation we are putting in place, everything should improve with the execution and performance the team is determined to deliver."

Wilmington returns a pair of goalkeepers Katie Bennett (Newport, OH/Frontier) and Emily Phipps (Heath, OH/Heath), but freshman Megan Wieloch (Canton, MI/Plymouth) will probably step in from the start.

Junior Stephanie Belz (Gahanna, OH/Lincoln) and junior Rachel Routzong (Urbana, OH/Urbana) are the only two players to have played both seasons for the Fightin' Quakers. Belz has started 20 of 24 career games over the last two years as a defender, while Routzong has started 23 of 25 career games.

Junior Ashley Fox (Monroe, OH/Lemon Monroe), senior Taylor Miller (Enon, OH/Greenon) and junior Nicole Hornic (Cridersville, OH/Wapakoneta) all return after starting in 2014.

Wilmington opens its season 3 p.m. March 7, traveling to the Trine Thunder.
