Women's lacrosse falls to Transy

LEXINGTON, KY – Senior Rachel Gutowski and freshman Kiki Hall scored two goals each as the Wilmington College women's lacrosse team fell to Transylvania, 22-5, Tuesday in non-conference action.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Hall (Westerville, OH/Central) a goal in the man advantage with 18:16 remaining. Less than four minutes later, Gutowski (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) tallied Wilmington's second goal to make it 7-2.

Transylvania rattled off eight consecutive goals to take the 15-2 lead into halftime. The run continued with the Pioneers scoring the first six goals of the second half to push its advantage to 21-2.

Wilmington scored the next three goals as senior Sammy Koerner (Fairfield, OH/Badin), Gutowski and Hall found the back of the net.

Sophomores Katie Bennett (Newport, OH/Frontier) and Emily Phipps (Heath, OH/Heath) split time in goal for the Fightin' Quakers. Bennett faced 18 shots, making three saves, and Phipps faced nine shots – making two saves.

Wilmington (0-6) returns home 3:30 p.m. Saturday to face the Hiram Terriers.
