Nearly two-dozen current students learned about Wilmington College's newly established program in women's lacrosse Feb. 25 at a clinic instructed by veteran collegiate players.

The students — a mixture of WC student-athletes engaged in other sports and students with some high school experience playing lacrosse — gained firsthand knowledge of Wilmington College's newest sport.

The College will field intercollegiate men and women's lacrosse teams beginning with the 2012-13 academic year.

WC President Jim Reynolds, along with Terry Rupert, vice president for athletic administration, and Sigrid Solomon, vice president for student affairs, welcomed the group to the milestone moment in the institution's athletics program.

The team's head coach, Brett Yenger, is engaged in her senior lacrosse season at the University of Albany — SUNY. She is a graduate of Sycamore High School in Cincinnati.

Following an information session, two College of Wooster lacrosse alumni, Joanna Amendola and Allison Neumeister, held a skills clinic focusing on the basics of the game. They are the daughters of Robert "Chip" Harrod, WC's vice president for advancement.

The College is anticipating that a number of current students interested in the sport will complement those high school students being recruited as members of the inaugural team.
