Thiel hangs loss on WC in home finale

Sarah Watters (Cincinnati, OH/Turpin) scored twice and added five ground balls and Sammy Koerner (Fairfield, OH/Hamilton Badin) added a goal for Wilmington as Thiel won convincingly, 22-3.

Thiel scored immediately on their first possession and took no time before adding several more tallies in the following string of possessions. The Tomcat attack proved to be lethal and executed with persistence as they took control of the contest jumping out to an early lead and eventually reeled off 12 straight unanswered goals starting in the middle of the first half which stretched late in to the second half giving Thiel a 19-2 advantage.

The Quakers found themselves on defense for the better part of the game where Karalyne Brown (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) had her hands full as she faced a barrage of shots making 10 saves throughout the evening.

Wilmington's speed in transition and in the attack was contained with Thiel's proper positioning and coverage in transition. When Thiel turned the ball over, they applied immediate pressure to the Quaker ball handler and made it extremely difficult to push transition which severely limited Wilmington's possession time and opportunities in the attack. Wilmington never was able to get into a rhythm in attack and found it difficult to pass and find cutters as the Thiel defense did an excellent job of defending one-on-one, covering open spaces and steering the Quaker attackers into positions and situations that were low percentage chances.

Wilmington takes the field again when they travel to Westerville to face Otterbein in the final game of the 2013 season 6 p.m. April 25.
