WOMEN'S PREVIEW: John Carroll

The Wilmington College women's basketball team kicks off the second swing through Ohio Athletic Conference action 3 p.m. Saturday by traveling to league-leading John Carroll.

Since their last meeting, which resulted in Wilmington's first loss of the season, the two teams have gone in different directions. The Blue Streaks have rattled off nine straight, while Wilmington is 4-5 over that span. However, the Fightin' Quakers have won three of the last four.

"They are strong at every position," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. "Obviously, you have to contain (Katlyn) Spahar. But (Beth) Switzler has been one of the under-rated players in this league, and (Emily) Taylor is a really athletic scoring type player. You can't focus on stopping just one aspect of their team."

Spahar leads the Ohio Athletic Conference with 18.8 points per game, three more points than the second-place scorer.  Switzler is second on the team with 12.8 points per game and leads the team with 8.6 rebounds, which is good for second in the OAC. The two players combined for 20 points on 6-of-25 shooting.

However, it was guard Emily Taylor that did the damage in December. She finished with a career-high 20 points. She has reached double figures in eight total games this season. On the season, Taylor is averaging 9.4 points per game.

John Carroll's other double-figure scorer, Megan Weber, has missed the last two games and isn't expected to play. She is averaging 11.3 points and 6.1 rebounds.

Sophomore Mary Moyer (Martinsville, OH/Clinton-Massie) is leading the team with 11.1 points. She has reached double figures in the last two games after a stretch of six games in which she achieved the feat just once.

Senior Courtney Tucker (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore), who will given the chore of guarding Spahar, leads the team with 6.0 rebounds and is second with 9.9 points. Sophomore Brittaney Jefferson (Dayton, OH/Chaminade Julienne) is becoming a scoring threat off the bench, averaging 15.3 points in the last three games.
