WOMENS PREVIEW: Otterbein Cardinals

The Wilmington College women's basketball team returns to Fred Raizk Arena at Hermann Court 7:30 p.m. to face the Otterbein Cardinals in Ohio Athletic Conference action.

Otterbein (5-10 overall, 2-6 OAC) comes into the game losers in four of its last five, most recently a 62-57 loss at Marietta Saturday.

The Cardinals feature possibly one of the best point guards in the country, in Chelsea Reed. The senior leads the OAC, and is ranked fifth nationally, averaging 5.7 assists per game. Not only does she do a fine job of getting her teammates involved, Reed is averaging nearly 10 points per game. She is making more that 50 percent of her shots, and is shooting 45 percent from three-point land.

"Chelsea Reed is the most skilled point guard we will see all year.  She understands the game, she sees the court extremely well," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. "She finds holes that other people don't see. She creates their offense. Reed will get to the basket and find a open three by penetrating to the basket herself."

Junior forward Amariah Huck leads the team in scoring (13.3) and rebounding (5.3), while shooting 46.7 percent from the field. She has attempted 56 free throws, the most of any Otterbein player.

Senior Mary Corbett is the other Otterbein player averaging double figures, scoring 12.3 points per game. She leads the league in field goal percentage (88.2) and is tied for fifth making 40 percent of her three-pointers.

"This team has a lot of weapons," said Scheve. "Corbett is a great wing, and Huck is a strong post player inside."

Wilmington is coming off a 14-point victory over Muskingum in which sophomore Brittaney Jefferson (Dayton, OH/Chaminade Julienne) keyed a 31-4 run and finished with a career-high 26 points. She added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. With the career performance, Jefferson is now third on the team in scoring with 9.3 points.

Sophomore post Mary Moyer (Martinsville, OH/Clinton-Massie) is still leading the team with 10.8 points, while senior Courtney Tucker (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) is second with 10.0 points and leads the team 6.1 rebounds.
