PREVIEW: John Carroll women

In a week they became ranked for the first time in a couple of years, and had to deal with the stress of exam week, the Wilmington College women's basketball team returns to the court to face two of the most prolific scorers in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

John Carroll brings the league top and third ranked scorers in the league when the two teams battle 3 p.m. Saturday. The Blue Streaks started the season with six straight victories before falling to Ohio Northern this past Saturday. In the loss to the Polar Bears, five different players reached double figures.

Reigning OAC Freshman of the Year Katlyn Spahar missed two games this season, but returned to come off the bench against the Polar Bears. The sophomore guard comes into the game averaging 19.6 points per game. Her ability to get to the line plays a part of her success, getting to the line a team-high 31 times. She is shooting 93.5 percent (29-of-31) from the charity stripe.

Senior Courtney Tucker could draw the defensive assignment on Spahar. The senior guard has been the Fightin' Quakers best perimeter defender over the last three seasons. In addition to her defensive prowess, Tucker has become an offensive force – coming into the game second on the team with 13.2 points per contest and leads the team in rebounding with 6.7 boards. She also leads the team with 20 steals.

Senior guard Beth Switzler leads the OAC with 8.6 rebounds and is third in the league with 15.1 points per game. Switzler has reached double figures in six of the team's seven games. Senior Emily Taylor is the team leader with 20 assists, while the point guard tandem of Shmoo Pryor and Erin Mog have combined for 37 assists.

Sophomore Mary Moyer leads Wilmington with 14.2 points and is second with 5.5 rebounds. She has reached double digits in all but one of WC's games this season. Sophomore Brittaney Jefferson is third on the team with 8.7 points.
