Women's Basketball moves into Top 25

Off to a 6-0 start, the Wilmington College women's basketball team has moved into the national polls.

Wilmington is ranked #22 in the USA Today/WBCA Women's Basketball poll and #25 in the D3hoops.com poll. The last time the Fightin' Quakers moved into the national polls, they started the 2011-12 season 6-0 before finishing up 13-14.

"We are picked to finish seventh in the OAC, and now we are nationally ranked," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. "None of it matters until March. We are still so far from being where we need to be, and we just need to concentrate on getting better each day."

Sophomore Mary Moyer (Martinsville, OH/Clinton-Massie) is fourth in the Ohio Athletic Conference in scoring with 14.2 points per game, while senior Courtney Tucker (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) in ninth with 6.7 rebounds. Tucker is also second on the team with 13.2 points per game.

Freshman Ellie Kivell (Hamilton, OH/Lakota West) is currently fourth in the OAC, converting 46.2 percent of her three-point attempts, and senior Spencer Robles (Clyde, OH/Clyde) is seventh in the league, making 38.9 percent of her long-range shots.

After taking a week off, WC returns to the court 3 p.m. Saturday, hosting John Carroll. The Blue Streaks (6-1) won their first five games to move in the Top 25 last week before falling out this week due to a 73-70 loss to Ohio Northern.
