WOMEN'S PREVIEW: Marietta Pioneers

The memories of the last time the Wilmington College women's basketball team strolled into the Ban Johnson Arena won't be lost on anyone involved. The Fightin' Quakers overcame a 10-point deficit in 37 seconds, and pulled out a double overtime win.

However, while the memories are just as vivid as it happened last night, it will have zero bearing on the outcome of Saturday's game. The team Wilmington faces Saturday may be the most talented team they have faced all season long.

"Marietta is a very talented, deep basketball team," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. "They probably have more individual offensive threats than anybody we have faced. We will have to played great team defense to slow them down. They can score in a lot of different ways."

The inside duo of seniors Heather Booth and Candice Alexander are combining for 21.0 points per game, and provide a significant threat to Wilmington's post players. Booth has reached double figures in four of the last five games, while Alexander has scored at least 10 points in half of the Pioneers' games. Both players are shooting more than 50 percent from the field.

However, they will have to contend with Wilmington's thriving post player, Mary Moyer. The sophomore leads the team with 14.6 points per game.

The tandem of freshman Brooke Borich and sophomore Morgan Liedtke are accounting for more than half of the 21 three-pointers. They are 12-of-35 (34.2 percent) from beyond the arc, while the rest of the team in 9-of-59 (15.2 percent).

Senior Courtney Tucker is coming off her worst offensive performance of the season, but her defense never wavered, while senior Spencer Robles is coming off her best offensive performance of the season.

With Wilmington receiving votes in the WBCA Coaches Poll and the d3hoops.com poll, a win Saturday could boost the Fightin' Quakers into the Top 25.
