Women's basketball falls to BW

BEREA – The Wilmington College women's basketball team fell to Baldwin Wallace, 77-59, Saturday in Ohio Athletic Conference action at Ursprung Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets took control of the game with by scoring 12 of the first 14 points after halftime to open their first double-figure lead of the game. Wilmington couldn't get its deficit under 10 points for the rest of the game.

"We didn't come out with the intensity we needed," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. "We gave up two many second chance points which put us in a hole."

Despite the outcome, Scheve felt his team acquitted themselves much better than in the first meeting.

"I thought our players executed the game plan well," said Scheve. "We did a nice job of guarding a team we couldn't guard at all the first time we played them a couple of months ago. Offensively we did a good job of executing; we just didn't shoot well enough. If you want to beat good teams, you have to shoot better than 35 percent."

Not only did Wilmington shoot just 35 percent from the field, Baldwin Wallace scored 25 points off turnovers and 15 points off second chance opportunities.

Senior Makenzie Wippel (Orient, OH/Westfall) finished with 11 points and four rebounds, while senior Haley Howard (Uhrichsville, OH/New Philadelphia) finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and a team-high three assists. Sophomore Kirsten Glick (Arcadia, OH/Arcadia) added nine points.

Wilmington (11-10 overall, 8-6 OAC) hosts Otterbein 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
