WOMEN'S PREVIEW: John Carroll

In possibly its stiffest road challenge of the season, the Wilmington College women's basketball travels to University Heights 3 p.m. Saturday to face unbeaten and nationally ranked John Carroll. The Blue Streaks, one of 14 remaining unbeaten teams, enter the game at 18th in the country.

""They are that presents a lot of physical match-ups for us, and they are athletic at every position," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. "They're unbeaten for a lot of reasons. They can beat you in any kind of game. They push the ball as well as anybody. Their point guard (senior Allie Lustig) is outstanding in pushing the basketball, but if they have to set up its just hard to match-up with all of their weapons. They can score extremely well in the half court game."

A pair of Spahar's – senior Missy and freshman Katlyn – are leading the Blue Streaks. They are accounting for 49 percent of the team's 79.8 points per game. Missy Spahar is a two-time All-OAC honoree and was the OAC Freshman of the Year during the 2010-11 season.

A 1,000-point scorer, the offense runs through the senior forward, who is the only players averaging a double-double in the OAC with 25.2 points and 10.3 rebounds. She leads the team with 176 shots (102 of 176, 58 percent), 66 more than her nearest teammate, and 55 free throw attempts. Her 102 makes are more attempts than every other player, except sister Katlyn.

"Obviously, averaging 26 points per game, she is a very skilled offensive player," said Scheve. "She can score inside with either hand, going in either direction. She can go outside and make shots, and can beat you off the dribble. But, mainly you have to be concerned with her post moves inside that has given everyone a lot of trouble."

The younger Spahar, Katlyn, is coming off the bench with 14.0 points and 5.6 boards. She is second on the team with 110 shots (50-of-110, 45 percent), and leads the team in three-point accuracy – making 44 percent (11-of-25) of her attempts.

Junior Beth Switler is the other JCU player averaging double figures with 11.3 points per game. The forward leads the team in offensive rebounding, grabbing mo

Lustig is running the show for the Blue Streaks with 46 assists, and she is taking care of the ball as well - turning the ball over just 16 times. She also has a team-high 28 steals to go along with her 7.6 points per game. The guard is second on the team with 40 three-point attempts, three behind the leader, Emily Taylor.
