WILMINGTON - The Wilmington College women's basketball team may not have a ranked opponent on slate this weekend, but the competition level this weekend will be intense. 

Perennial Presidents' Athletic Conference contender Saint Vincent joins Hendrix, which is coached by former WC standout Emily Cummins and University of Cincinnati-Clermont, in the Fred Raizk Memorial Tournament, sponsored by Hampton Inn & Damon's.

Coming off back-to-back loss to No. 12 Hope and No. 3 DePauw, Wilmington will start the tournament hosting UC-Clermont at 6 p.m. The game will be followed by Hendrix against Saint Vincent.

"I think we are very excited to play," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. "Anytime you come off a bad game, you want to get back out there to get the bad taste out your mouth."

Senior LeAnn Topp (New Bremen, OH/New Bremen) and sophomore Spencer Robles (Clyde, OH/Clyde) are leading the team averaging 7.3 points per game. However, Robles is coming off a game in which she was held scoreless on just one shot.

Senior Bria Eslick (Cleveland Heights, OH/Lutheran East) is the leading the team with 6.7 rebounds and is third with 6.3 points.

The Lady Quakers are averaging just 46.7 points per game, and Scheve acknowledges that he may dig deeper into his bench to find some scoring punch.

One of the reasons for Wilmington's offensive struggles is its inability to handle tough halfcourt offense. They are shooting just 30 percent from the field, and is turning the ball over 24 times per game.
Scheve expects the Clermont Cougars to provide a stern test for his Wilmington team.

"They have had some success over the last couple of years," said Scheve. "They have several players that we recruited. It's a team we have to be ready for."
