The Wilmington College women's basketball team fell under a barrage of three-pointers as No. 3 DePauw defeated the Lady Quakers 73-44 Wednesday at Neal Fieldhouse in non-conference action.

"DePauw is a very, very good team," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. "They are very physical, well-coached team that shoots the ball extremely well."

The Tigers used their stellar long-range shooting along with runs of 23-4 and 35-4 to drop the Lady Quakers to 1-2 on the season. Six different players made jumpers from behind the arc as DePauw shot 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from long distance. Wilmington was just 2-of-7 (28.6 percent) from the land of trifecta.

Additionally, Wilmington inability to take care of the basketball lead directly to 22 points off 27 turnovers. DePauw added 18 offensive rebounds for 13 second-chance points. More than half of the Tigers rebounds came on the offensive end.

For the first half of the opening 20 minutes, the Lady Quakers grinded out on the defensive end as was able to hold a five-point advantage, 13-8. But, DePauw first extended spurt have the host Tigers some breathing room and they never relinquished control.

"I thought we competed well in the first eight minutes of the game," said Scheve. "When the took the lead, my disappointment was how we answered. We had some defensive breakdowns in transition. Defensive transition is the single-most difficult and more important principle. We didn't do a good job of finding shooters in transition."

However, Scheve was pleased with the play of his reserves overs the last eight minutes of the game as the Lady Quakers held a slim 14-11 advantage to close the game.

"I was pleased with their energy and execution in the last nine minutes," Scheve said of the Wilmington younger players.

Senior LeAnn Topp (New Bremen, OH/New Bremen) led Wilmington with nine points, while senior Brianna Peters (Alexandria, KY/Campbell County) added seven points and a team-high six rebounds. Scheve thought the two seniors played "solid games" in the loss.

Wilmington returns to the hardwood 6 p.m. Saturday against UC-Clermont in the first game of the Fred Raizk Memorial Classic. The 8 p.m. features Hendrix against Saint Vincent.
