It's been a while since the Wilmington Lady Quakers have lost to Saturday's opponent, Heidelberg, but WC head coach Jerry Scheve is quick to point out this year's version of the Student Princes is the most talented of any they have faced in recent memory.

Wilmington has won all eight meetings under Heidelberg's current staff, and is 19-4 all-time against the Student Princes.

"They are a much improved team, and it's not an easy place to play," said Scheve. "They always give us trouble up there, and we have been fortunate to pull out wins. This is by far the best team they have had in the last three, four years."

The five wins for the Student Princes equals their total from the last two years, and they are two wins away from the high-water mark under head coach Marcie Alberts.

Heidelberg features the top scorer in the Ohio Athletic Conference in Kathleen Phillips, who is scoring 18.7 points per game. She has led the team in scoring in seven of their 10 games, and has eclipsed the 20-point plateau in three straight outings.

"We know she is the type of player we need to keep under control," said Scheve. "She can score in any way possible. She can shoot three's and score off the dribble. She is an exceptional athlete that moves well without the ball, and she can pass the ball as well."

If you add the contributions of Paige Ricketts and Megan Miller, the trio is accounting for 60 percent of the team's scoring.

Coming off Wednesday's win against Capital, where they blew a 19-point lead, shot 33 percent and turned it over 27 times, Scheve chose to look at the positives.

"We always talked about learning to win when we don't shoot the ball well and turn it over, and Wednesday's we did it against a good team," said Scheve. "I know we can shoot and take care of the ball. If we do both on a regular basis, we have a chance to be a pretty good team."

Senior Brianna Peters (Alexandria, KY/Campbell County) is leading the team with 10.5 points per game, while sophomore Spencer Robles (Clyde, OH/Clyde) is second with 9.0 points. Senior LeAnn Topp (New Bremen, OH/New Bremen) is adding 7.5 points with a team-high 6.8 rebounds, while junior Haley Howard (Uhrichsville, OH/New Philadelphia) also scores 7.5 points with a team-high 46 assists.
