Polar Bears await LQB in OAC semifinals

Some coaches believe in the old adage, "it's difficult to beat a team three times in a season." Well the Wilmington College women's basketball team gets to put the measure to a major test Thursday as the Lady Quakers will travel to No. 3 Ohio Northern 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Lady Quakers have lost eight of the last nine games, and seven straight, against Ohio Northern.

The top-seeded Polar Bears won both games this season, winning 76-60 in Wilmington and 63-48 in Ada. Ohio Northern comes into the contest at 24-1 and on a 23-game winning streak. It's lone loss came at nationally-ranked Washington University in the second game of the season.

"We still have some weaknesses that we have to work on and turning it over that many times (against Ohio Northern) will hurt us against them," said head coach Jerry Scheve.

Wilmington is averaging 19 turnovers per game, and turned it over 35 times in the two Ohio Northern matchups. The miscues led directly to 38 ONU points in the game. The Polar Bears have been pretty dominant this season, winning games by an average of more than 19 points per game. They have won all of their OAC games by double digits.

Three players are averaging double figures for the Polar Bears, led by junior Cenzie Yoder. The 5-11 forward is scoring 14.6 points per game, which is sixth in the league. Senior Joanna Snyder is eighth in the league with 13.5 points. The two scored 20 points each in the first meeting, but was limited to 19 points total in the second game. Senior Morgan Dumbaugh is the last member of the double-figure trio with 11.6 points.

Thursday's game would be the sixth time Wilmington has faced a ranked team and they are 0-5 in those meetings. In those games, the Lady Quakers are being outscored by 20 points.

Senior Bria Eslick (Cleveland Heights, OH/Lutheran East) is the leading scorer with 8.0 points over the two Ohio Northern meetings. Brianna Peters (Alexandria, KY/Campbell County) is averaging 7.5 points and 5.5 rebounds against Ohio Northern.
