Coming off its first Ohio Athletic Conference loss, the Wilmington Lady Quakers look to get back on track against Capital 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Lady Quakers have won three of the last four meetings at Fred Raizk Arena.
Capital comes into the game as one of three teams unbeaten in the OAC, and on a four-game winning streak.
"They are a solid basketball team that plays hard and executes," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve.
Senior forward Stacy Timmerman has been the team's scoring leader since the team embarked on conference play. She has been the team's high scorer in each of the three OAC games, and is averaging 15.0 points per game. On the season, Timmerman is averaging 11.3 points per game. Timmerman is also the team's leading rebounder with 6.3 boards per contest.
Another player that has increased their production in OAC play is junior Cookie Geroski. A 2011-12 honorable mention All-OAC selection, is grabbing nearly two rebounds more per game from 5.8 boards to 7.7. Her scoring average has remained at 9.0 ppg.
Junior Jamie Caton is scoring a team-high 12.0 ppg and is grabbing 4.9 rebounds per contest.
Scheve expects the Crusaders to play a lot of zone defense, but it's possible they will sprinkle in some man-to-man.
Senior Brianna Peters has turned into a solid post option for the Lady Quakers after getting off to a slow start. The forward totaled 14 points in her first three games of the season, but is averaging 13.1 points in the last seven games.
If Capital decides to zone the Lady Quakers, sophomore Spencer Robles could be the X-factor. Robles is scoring more than 13 points in home games, while scoring just 5.2 in road games. She is leading the team with 18 three-pointers and is shooting 41 percent for beyond the arc.
Senior LeAnn Topp is another long-range option, shooing 45 percent (10-of-22) from long range.
The potential pitfalls with playing zone against Wilmington is WC's ability to hit the offensive glass. Wilmington leads the league with 15.8 offensive rebounds and is third in the league with a rebounding margin of plus 6.7.
