Ahrens scores career-high in loss

ADA – The Wilmington College women's basketball team dropped their third straight game, falling to #8 Ohio Northern Wednesday, 76-60, at the ONU Sports Center in Ohio Athletic Conference action. The Lady Quakers are now 0-4 this season against ranked teams, while the Polar Bears have now won 14 consecutive games.

Ohio Northern scored 18 of the last 25 points enabling the final score to not be indictative of the game. The contest was tied at halftime, and with a shade over six minutes remaining, Wilmington trailed by just five.

Both teams took five-point leads in the first half, but neither could pull away. It was the Polar Bears that gave Wilmington a dose of its own medicine in the first 20 minutes as ONU grabbed 12 offensive boards that enabled them to take 10 more shots. Meanwhile, the Lady Quakers stayed close with 42 percent shooting. They also took care of the ball, committing just six turnovers with eight assists.

They traded the lead for the first five minutes of the seconds, and after senior Emily Zimmerman (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) drained a three-pointer with 15:48, Wilmington had its final lead of the contest.

Ohio Northern proceeded to go on a 14-4 run to push its lead to nine. The Lady Quakers got to within five, but couldn't overcome to huge deficit.

Junior Bethany Ahrens (Versailles, OH/Versailles) scored a career-high 10 points in 16 minutes. Senior LeAnn Topp (New Bremen, OH/New Bremen) added nine points and a team-high eight rebounds, Zimmerman added nine points in a season-high 22 minutes.
