With exams behind them, the Wilmington College women's basketball team is focusing on playing quality basketball and building on their current four-game winning streak. The Lady Quakers are traveling to Marietta Saturday for the team first Ohio Athletic Conference road contest. 

The road hasn't been kind for WC as they have lost nine consecutive OAC games, and 11 of the last 12, away from home. However, with their victory over MSJ on November 28, Wilmington snapped its 11-game road-losing streak. Now they are looking for its first OAC road win since beating Heidelberg on December 3, 2011.

"It's not something I really bring up," said WC head coach Jerry Scheve. "It's tough to win games in the OAC. We don't look at where we are playing, we look at who we are playing."

Sophomore Spencer Robles (Clyde, OH/Clyde) is leading the team with 9.4 points per game, and has reached double figures in five of the team's seven games. However, she has only scored three points total in the Lady Quakers' two road games.

Ever since Scheve tweaked his starting line-up and his rotation, the Lady Quakers have been playing well. Senior Brianna Peters (Alexandria, KY/Campbell County) has improved her offensive efficiency, and is currently averaging 8.7 points while shooting 59 percent from the field.

Scheve is hoping the progress his team has displayed is a sign of things to come.

"We have been practicing well all year long," he said. "It just hasn't showed up consistently in games. We played well Wednesday, and hopefully that is a sign of things to come."

The Pioneers have lost three of their last four games after starting the season 3-0. Sophomore Hearther Booth, coming off a career-high 17 points, leads Marietta with 9.6 points per games. She has scored in double figures in four of the team's seven games.

"Marietta is a very good, solid basketball team," said Scheve. "They are a veteran team that was returns nearly all their players from a year ago. They play tough man-to-man defense and is well-balanced."
