@FightinQuakerSB drops pair to ONU

ADA – The Wilmington College softball team recorded five hits and committed eight errors, falling in a pair of run-shortened Ohio Athletic Conference games. Wilmington lost in the first game, 10-2, in five innings, and then fell to Ohio Northern, 8-0, in the nightcap.

Wilmington (5-20 overall, 1-5 OAC), which has lost nine in a row, returns to action 1 p.m. Friday. The Fightin' Quakers host Capital in Ohio Athletic Conference action.

GAME ONE: OHIO NORTHERN 12, WILMINGTON 2 (5 INNINGS)

Wilmington committed six errors, leading to seven unearned runs, and Ohio Northern scored 12 unanswered runs in recording the OAC win.

Freshman Emily Smith (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook) got the Fightin' Quakers on the board first with a RBI double in the top of the first inning. Junior Hillary Daria-White (Felicity, OH/Felicity Franklin) drew a bases loaded walk to bring home another run, and WC led 2-0.

Ohio Northern scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first, and took the lead with two more unearned runs in the second. The Polar Bears added three runs in the third, a single run in the fourth and three more in the fifth.

Sophomore Kerrie Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field), senior Jess Clutter (Englewood, OH/Northmont) and Smith each recorded a hit for WC.

Freshman Beth Persicano (Knoxville, TN/Cincinnati Turpin) took the loss (2-11), allowing seven runs (three earned) on six hits in four innings of action. She had three strikeouts with one loss.

GAME TWO: OHIO NORTHERN 8, WILMINGTON 0 (5 INNINGS)

Ohio Northern scored in four of the five innings, including four unearned runs in the third inning, to post the 8-0 win.

Clutter and sophomore Ashley McCray (Vandalia, OH/Butler) each went 1-for-2 in the game.

Persicano (2-12) was hung with the loss after allowing five runs (one earned) on four hits in 2 2/3 innings. She had one strikeout and one walk.
