Monnier named OAC Pitcher of the Year

Monnier, Shilling 1st Team; Warren named honorable mention

AUSTINTOWN – The record-breaking list for Danielle Monnier keeps growing.

Monnier (Houston, OH/Houston) became the first Wilmington College softball player to earn conference Pitcher of the Year honors as the Ohio Athletic Conference released its All-OAC teams Saturday (May 3). She was also named first-team All-OAC and was joined on the first team by senior shortstop Catlin Shilling (Waverly, OH/Waverly). Sophomore outfielder Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City) earned honorable mention.

A senior flamethrower, Monnier led the OAC in earned run average (2.24) and strikeouts 142, and was tied for second in the league with 13 victories. The win total established a new single-season record for Wilmington, and Monnier leaves as the school's all-time leader in that category as well. She also holds the top three single-season strikeout performances en route to establishing a new career record as well.

"Danielle had an amazing career," said Wilmington head coach Beth Floyd. "She is truly a remarkable person on and off the field. It was a joy to watch grow and develop over the past four years. Danielle is a hard worker, with drive and determination, and she is very deserving of OAC Pitcher of the Week. She has impacted our program in such a positive way; I am going to miss her so much."

Shilling has been Wilmington's primary power source in the last two years. She concluded her career as the school's all-time leader in doubles (37), homeruns (24) and RBI (86). Shilling also holds single-season records in batting average (.482) and homeruns (10). Her 53 hits this season were the second-most in any season.

"Catlin had an outstanding season," said Floyd. "She led the conference in average, OBP, slugging and RBIs. She is very deserving of 1st team all-conference.  She had a great career, and we were very lucky to have her."

In her first year as the leadoff hitter, Warren did a great job at the top of the order. She was second on the team in runs scored (21), while hitting .281 on the season. Warren was also second on the team with seven doubles. In addition her offensive prowess, played dazzling centerfield for the Fightin' Quakers.

"Megan gets better every day because she works so hard," said Floyd. "She did a great job leading off for us and playing centerfield.  I look for her to continue to grow and get better and better over the next two years."
