Softball drops two to Muskingum

The Wilmington College softball team scored just one run Wednesday as the Fightin' Quakers were swept by Muskingum in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at the Wilmington softball complex. WC fell in the first game, 2-0, and fell in the nightcap, 10-1, in six innings.

Wilmington came a foot away from walking off in the opener as senior Catlin Shilling (Waverly, OH/Waverly) smashed a single off the top of the fence with two-on and one out.  However, sophomore Hillary Daria-White (Felicity, OH/Felicity-Franklin) was thrown out at home. It was third time a WC player was out at the plate, and Wilmington couldn't push across a run.

The Fightin' Quakers left 10 runners on base, including bases loaded in the second and third innings.

Senior Danielle Monnier (Houston, OH/Houston) was saddled with the loss (8-8), allowing two earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in seven innings of action.

Shilling recorded three of Wilmington's eight hits, going 3-for-4 with a double.

Muskingum scored eight runs over the last three innings, and took the second game.

Junior Allie Noggle (Ashville, OH/Teays Valley) was 2-for-3, while Shilling was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Freshman Kerrie Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) allowed four runs (two earned) on just three hits in three innings of work. She also surrendered three walks.

Wilmington (12-15, 3-7 OAC) hosts Baldwin Wallace 1 p.m. Saturday in an OAC doubleheader.
