WC chops down LumberJills

FORT MYERS - In the opener, Wilmington pounced on Northland early with seven first-inning runs en route to posting the 13-4 victory.

Sophomore Jess Clutter (Englewood, OH/Northmont) continues to be brilliant on the spring break trip as she lowered her ERA to 0.29 by hurling four innings of two-hit softball. She yielded three unearned runs in the four innings. The Wilmington staff of Clutter, Monnier and junior Catlin Shilling (Waverly, OH/Waverly) has allowed just four earned runs over 54 innings for a team ERA of 0.52.

"There are not enough words to describe how amazing they have been," said Floyd. "All of their hard work is paying off for them, and our pitchers have been solid. All three that have been on the mound, have been outstanding."

Junior Stacy Lunsford (Wilmington, OH/Clinton-Massie) drove in three runs for Wilmington, while freshman Emily Phipps lined a double in the fourth inning for her first collegiate hit and first two collegiate RBI. Hutchison, Shilling and freshman Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City) all had two hits in WC's 13-hit barrage.

"The kids weren't pleased with how they hit yesterday, and they came out really focused – attacking the ball, being the aggressor. They just a great job about having a short-term memory about yesterday's hitting performance."
