WC ends season with losses to Ohio Northern

ADA — Wilmington College concluded the 2011 softball season with a doubleheader loss at Ohio Northern Sunday afternoon.

The Polar Bears took game one, 14-1, and finished the sweep with a 9-1 victory in game two.

Wilmington ends the season at 2-16 in the OAC, 13-21 overall. Ohio Northern moves on to the OAC Championship at 14-4 in the conference, 24-10 for the season.

The Quakers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener when Brooke Byrne (Wilmington) walked and scored on a Kaylee Cox (Prospect/Elgin) single to center field.

The lead was short-lived. Ohio Northern put its first seven batters on base and scored five times in the home first.

Ohio Northern added four runs in the second inning and four more in the third.

The Quakers got hits from Cox, Catlin Shilling (Waverly) and Elise Mariner (North Canton/Hoover).

In game two, Ohio Northern broke through with five runs in the second inning.

Wilmington's lone run came in the fifth when Nikki Tolson (Monroe/Lemon-Monroe) reached base on an error and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Byrne, Shilling, Cox and Danielle Monnier (Houston) accounted for Wilmington's four hits.
