The Wilmington College men’s cross country team finished seventh in the 10-team Ohio Athletic Conference meet Saturday held on the Delaware campus of Columbus State University.
WILMINGTON, Ohio- Friday was no ordinary meet at Wilmington College for the Quakers. Wilmington played host to the fourth annual JennaStrong Fall Classic, an event to honor their fallen teammate Jenna Parlette. The meet was not only special because it serves as a time to gather, honor and remember Jenna, but also it brought together 38 teams and various individual or unattached runners, a number of whom were Wilmington Cross Country alumni. The event fielded a total of 399 male runners. The tagline of the meet, also Jenna’s life motto, “You run with your legs, win with your heart”, could be seen in every runner as they pushed themselves and competed until the very end. It truly was a remarkable atmosphere.
Of the 38 teams, the Wilmington men finished 25th in the 8k race, with an average time of 28:11, 40 seconds faster than their last 8k race.
WILMINGTON, Ohio- Wilmington competed on Friday, at home, in a dual meet against Thomas More College. This meet was the first on their home course this season. The team raced a 5k, a distance they haven’t seen in competition since the Red Wolf Rumble on September 2nd . The men ran well and gave honest efforts but finished a mere 21 points behind Thomas More.
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky- The Quakers were back in action Saturday at the Pre-National meet in Louisville, Kentucky. Wilmington competed in the day’s ‘Silver’ race, a race that, itself, fielded 43 teams. The team finished in 34th place, with an average time of 28:51 for the 8k race.
CEDARVILLE, Ohio- The Wilmington College Cross Country teams competed Saturday at Cedarville University’s Friendship Invitational. Injury and illness kept Wilmington from competing with a full field in either the Men’s or Women’s event. Even without a full roster, the men took eight out of the ten competing teams. The women, however, only fielded two runners, neither of whom scored for the Quakers.
RICHMOND, Indiana- The Wilmington College Men’s Cross Country team started their season on Friday at Indiana University-East’s Red Wolf Rumble. Earlham College and Cincinnati Christian University also participated in this season opening event. The Wilmington Men finished 2nd overall in the 5k race only 16 points behind Indiana University-East.
