he Wilmington College men’s track & field team garnered the All-Academic Team Award, handed out by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday. Additionally, freshman Simon Heys was named an All-Academic Individual.
Academic All-Conference selections have at least a cumulative 3.5 grade-point average (GPA) at the end of the semester preceding the end of the spring season. The student-athlete must also be a member of a varsity team as well as be enrolled in a full-time capacity.
WILMINGTON, Ohio – The 2020 calendar year saw something that collegiate athletics has not experienced in a long time. Due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, Wilmington College, the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) and the NCAA as a whole shut down operations of intercollegiate athletics in March for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year.

The two-day event, Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, Feb. 29, is scheduled to begin with field events in the morning followed by track events in the afternoon. Friday’s action kicks off with field events at noon followed by track events at 4 p.m. The meet concludes with 10 a.m. field events and 2:30 p.m. track events on Saturday.
The Wilmington College men’s track & field team claimed its first team victory of the 2019-20 indoor season by winning the Rick Meindl Invitational hosted by Capital University on Friday evening.
Heys became the first Fightin’ Quaker to complete an indoor 5,000 in under 15 minutes as the Wilmington High School alumnus crossed the finish line in 14:57.89.
Two Wilmington relay squads scored including the distance medley relay team of Bertsch, Aaron Koch, Josh Cyrus and Heys beat the entire field by over 25 seconds with a time of 10:47.66.
The Fightin’ Quakers finished with 105.33 points as a team, over 40 points clear of third place Marietta College. The University of Charleston of West Virginia won the meet with 149 points.
Rupert, who added vice president for athletic administration to his title in 2007, will also remain in that role this semester as he transitions into becoming a full-time faculty member with the sport management program, which he started in 1998.
