Simpkins, Ayoki lead Men's Track and Field

SPRINGFIELD, OH – Senior Jake Simpkins won two of Wilmington's three events as the track and field team finished fourth of the 10-team Wittenberg Tiger Invitational.

Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View) was victorious in the 800 (1:57.97) and the 1500 (4:05.90). Senior Jake Sydnor (Owensville, OH/Clermont Northeastern) brought home the other event victory, winning the 200 (22.41). Sydnor added a second-place finish in the 400 (49.47).

Freshman Pierce Burnam (New Richmond, OH/New Richmond) scored in both hurdling events, placing third in the 400 hurdles (58.24) and seventh in the 110 hurdles (16.72). Senior Derek Kilgo (Charlotte, NC/North Royalton) was third in the 100 (11.49), while a pair of runners scored in the 3000 steeplechase. Junior Dominic King (Bettsville, OH/Bettsville) was fourth (10:33.52) and freshman Tony Wydra (Miamisburg, OH/Miamisburg) was sixth (11:03.28).

Sophomore Zak Zruer (Miamisburg, OH/Miamisburg) was second in the pole vault (4.27) and fourth in the triple jump (12.59).

Junior Linden Ayoki (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) scored in three field events for Wilmington. His best finish as second place in the discus (43.23), while he had fifth-place finishes in the shot put (13.39) and hammer (40.36). Freshman Kalvin Butts (St. Johns, MI/St. Johns) was eighth in the shot put (12.00) and eighth in the discus (33.34).

Wilmington returns to action Saturday at the All-Ohio meet hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
