Men's track places second at Capital

BEXLEY – Jake Simpkins won two events as members of the Wilmington College men's track & field team finished second of six teams at the Capital Invitational.

"Jake Simpkins had a nice double today," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "I thought our sprinters looked strong tonight. Good opener for both teams. It was good opportunity for the track kids who have been working through the fall to see where they are. We are strong in some areas and weak in some areas. Hopefully after the break, we can improve our weaknesses."

Simpkins was victorious in the mile (4:34.40) and then won the 800 (2:02.76).

Zak Kruer won the pole vault with a distance of 4.39 meters, while Dominic King was the top collegiate placer in the 3,000 meters (9:28.47).

The 4x200 meter relay team of Cameron Bridgewater, Derek Kilgo, Jake Sydnor, and Travis Scheadler won the event with a time of 1:33.87. Sydnor placed second in the 400 with the time of 51.10, and Kilgo placed third in 51.22.
