Four bring home All-OAC laurels

BEREA – Four Wilmington College men's track & field athletes earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors as the Fightin' Quakers finished sixth in the 2014 OAC outdoor championships Saturday.

"The men had an up and down day," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "We put up 70 points, which is solid, but I don't think we had our best weekend."

Senior Alek Erwin (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) brought home all-league honors in both the 1,500 and the 5K. He was third in the 1,500 (3:59.55) and was second in the 5K (15:17.44).

"That was the best double of Alek's life," said Combs. "He had an amazing run in the 5K, and nearly pulled off the win."

Total misses cost senior Christian Patterson (Cincinnati, OH/Norwood) the high jump title, although he still earned All-OAC honors. Both jumpers cleared 6-10.25, but Patterson achieved the feat with nine misses and the champion achieved it with seven misses.

Senior Brad Kline (Circleville, OH/Circleville) recorded a personal best in earning all-OAC laurels with a third place finish in the steeplechase (9:48.20). Junior Jake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View) was third in the 800 (1:55.74) to also bring home all-conference honors.

Sophomore Linden Ayoki (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) nearly earned all-league honors, placing fourth with a personal best distance in the discus (141-09).

Sophomore Jeremy Duncan (Cincinnati, OH/Archbishop Moeller) scored points in the 100 (8th, 11.01) and 200 (4th, 21.8). Junior Jake Sydnor (Owenville, OH/Clermont Northeaster) also scored points in two events, placing sixth in the 200 (22.38) and fourth in the 400 (49.95).

Sophomore Antone Truss (Yellow Springs, OH/Yellow Springs) scored in the high jump by placing fourth (6-06.00) and set a personal best in the triple jump (40-06.75).
