BEXLEY – The Wilmington men's indoor track and field team recorded four event victories and four second-place finishes in placing third of five teams at the Ohio Athletic Conference South meet at the Capital Center on the campus of Capital University.

Marietta won the meet with 135.5 points, followed by Capital 131 points and Wilmington with 109 points. Otterbein was fourth with 102.5 points and Muskingum was last with 102 points.

"We had some injuries on the men's side and we are a little banged up," said head coach Ron Combs. "All in all, I was pleased with the outcome. Every team here is a team that we can compete with at the conference meet."

Sophomore Jake Sydnor (Batavia, OH/Clermont Northeastern) won the 400 in the time 50.63, while the Fightin' Quakers also claimed victories in the 800-meter and 1,000-meter runs. Junior Brad Kline (Circleville, OH/Circleville) won the 800 in 2:02.30 and sophomoreJake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View) was victorious in the 1,000.

"That was a real strong race by Jake in the 400," said Combs. "He ran well and he will be in the hunt to be the main guy at the conference meet."

Senior Mason Metts (Pomeroy, OH/Meigs) was victorious in shot put in the second straight meet with a distance of 15.2 meters. He was second in the weight throw with a distance of 16.1 meters. Combs commended Metts for fighting through an injury to record the win.

Freshman Antone Truss (Yellow Springs, OH/Yellow Springs) was second in the high jump with a leap of 1.87 meters. JuniorAlek Erwin (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) completed the 3,000 meter run in 9:03.16, good for second place, while Simpkins, Kline and Erwin combined with junior Tony Goodrich (Bethel, OH/New Richmond) for a second place finish in the distance medley.

Wilmington returns to the track in the All-Ohio meet on February 9 at Otterbein University.
