Men's team wins Rick Meindl Invitational

BEXLEY, OH – With two relay victories and two individual wins, the Wilmington College men's track team edged past host Capital to win the Rick Meindl Invitational Saturday. 

"I thought both teams performed well with one week to go before (the) conference (meet)," said head coach Ron Combs. "It was nice to get a win on the men's side of things. I thought we had looked down the last two weeks so it was nice to see the team build some momentum and gain some confidence in the lead up to the OAC Meet."

In the 1,000 meter run, the Quakers went 1-2 as juniorAlek Erwin (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) won the event with school record time of 2:33.69. It was also the fastest indoor time in the OAC this season. Junior Brad Kline (Circleville, OH/Circleville) was second in 2:39.28.

Senior Mason Metts (Pomeroy, OH/Meigs) won the shot put for the third time this indoor season with a toss of 53'3". He added a second place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 17.24 meters.

The 4x200 meter relay team of sophomore Derek Kilgo (Charlotte, N.C./North Royalton), junior Nate Godby (Goshen, OH/Goshen), sophomore Jake Sydnor (Batavia, OH/Clermont Northeastern) and freshman Jeremy Duncan (Cincinnati, OH/Moeller), in their first meet as a quartet, won the event in 1:32.51 - edging the Heidelberg team by a tenth of a second.

Kilgo, Godby and Sydnor joined sophomore Jake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View) to win the 4x400 meter relay with the time of 3:27.56. Simpkins added a second place in the mile run. Both relay victories were the season-best times for Wilmington.

Senior Liz Delehanty (Euclid, OH/Villa Angela-St. Joseph's) brought home the lone victory over the women's team, winning the pole vault with a vault of 10'0". 

Sophomore Sarah Murphy (West Liberty, OH/West Liberty Salem) was the lone women's runner to score in three events. She was third in the 500 meter run with the time of 1:24.63, fifth in the 200 meter dash in the time of 28.11, and was part of the 4x200 relay team that finish third.
