Metts claims half of WC's four wins

MEMPHIS, TN – Senior Mason Metts was victorious in two events and placed fourth in another as the Wilmington College men's track and field team competed in the non-scored Rhodes College Invitational. The Quakers added two more event victories and 15 Top-5 finishes in the meet.

Metts (Pomeroy, OH/Meigs) won the hammer throw with a launch of 172-04, and then was victorious in the shot put with a toss of 52-06.5. He was fourth in the discus with a distance of 137.00. Senior Matt Davis(Springfield, OH/Shawnee) placed third in the hammer with a toss of 141.03, while sophomore Tyler Carter(Grafton, OH/Midview) was third in the shot put with a distance of 41-07.00.

"Mason had a great meet this weekend," said head coach Ron Combs. "He is very focused this season, and carried the momentum he had during the indoor season right over to the first outdoor meet."

Freshman Jeremy Duncan (Cincinnati, OH/Archbishop Moeller) won the 200 in the time of 22.46, while junior Christian Patterson (Cincinnati, OH/Norwood) was victorious in the high jump with a jump of 6-06.00.

Sophomore Tyler Caudill (Jamestown, OH/Greeneview) had a solid showing in the hurdles, placing second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 56.67, and was fourth in the 110 hurdles in a time of 16.13.

Other individual Top-5 finishes for Wilmington were junior Alek Erwin (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) was fifth in the 5000 (15:20.38), sophomore Jake Sydnor (Batavia, OH/Clermont Northeastern) placed second in the 400 (49.22) and senior Chad Hirchauer (Cincinnati, OH/Milford) was fifth in the 3000 steeplechase (10:39.37).

The 4x800 team of junior Tony Goodrich (Bethel, OH/New Richmond), junior Brad Kline (Circleville, OH/Circleville), sophomore Jake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View) and Erwin placed fourth in the time of 8:22.13. The quartet of Sydnor, Caudill, Duncan and freshman Leevi Stump (Mount Vernon, OH/Mount Vernon) was third in the 4x400 with a time of 8:22.13.

"I was really pleased with the whole team this weekend," said Combs. "We had a lot of OAC qualifiers and personal bests in less than ideal conditions with the weather."

Wilmington returns to action Saturday in the Ohio Athletic Conference split meet at Muskingum University.
