LLIANCE – Early into the Ohio Athletic Conference championships, the Wilmington College track & field team had an OAC champion.

Liz Delehanty (Euclid, OH/Villa Angela –St. Joseph) cleared the distance of 11-01 on her third and final attempt to claim the pole vault title. While she was the lone champion, sophomore Jenna Parlette (Miamisburg, OH/Miamisburg) claimed All-OAC honors of her own in style. The distance runner crushed the school record in the 10K, finishing second in a time of 37:11.29. She broke the old record of 37:40.29.

"It was an amazing first day for the women," said head coach Ron Combs.

The Lady Quakers are third after the first day with 29 points.

Sophomore Sarah Murphy (West Liberty, OH/West Liberty Salem) qualified for Saturday's finals in the 100 and 400 hurdles. She qualified eighth in the 100 hurdles and seventh in the 400 hurdles.

Delehanty and Parlette weren't the only athletes sporting green and white to earn all-conference honors as the men's 4x800 team placed third with the time of 7:51.04. The quartet that brought home all-OAC laurels were sophomore Jake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View), junior Alek Erwin (Springfield, OH/Northeastern), junior Tony Goodrich (Bethel, OH/New Richmond) and junior Brad Kline (Circleville, OH/Circleville).

"We set ourselves up well with a lot of scoring opportunities for (Saturday)," said Combs. "We are about where I thought we would be after the first day."

Sophomore Derek Kilgo (Charlotte, NC/Royalton) is the top qualifier in the 200, after posting a time of 22.14. He also qualified in the 100. Freshman Jeremy Duncan (Cincinnati, OH/Archbishop Moeller), who was WC's top 100 and 200 sprinter is out for the rest of the championships. Also qualifying through the preliminaries were sophomore Tyler Caudill (Grafton, OH/Midview) in the 110 hurdles and 400 hurdles, and sophomore Jake Sydnor (Batavia, OH/Clermont Northeastern) in the 400.

The second day of OAC championships is slated to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.
