Men's track finishes third at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE – The Wilmington College men's track team won five events – three individual and two relays – in finishing third at the Cedarville Outdoor Collegiate All Comers meet Saturday. The meet was the final tune-up before the Ohio Athletic Conference championships.

"(I was) satisfied with the performances of both the men and women this weekend at Cedarville," said head coach Ron Combs. "We rested a lot of people in preparation of the OAC meet next weekend. The conditions were less than ideal so we are happy to have everyone relatively healthy going into the OAC meet."

Sophomore Jake Simpkins (Germantown, OH/Valley View) turned in a standout performance in the 800, winning the event in 1:58.31. He was also a part of the 4x400 team that won the event in 3:24.50. Simpkins was joined on the relay team by Jake Sydnor (Batavia, OH/Clermont Northeastern), Derek Kilgo (Charlotte, NC/Royalton) and Nate Godby (Goshen, OH/Goshen).

Senior Mason Metts (Pomeroy, OH/Meigs) won the hammer throw with a distance of 175-07, and was second in the shot put with a distance of 52-01.00. Junior Christian Patterson (Cincinnati, OH/Cincinnati) recorded the other individual victory, claiming the high jump for the fourth consecutive meet with a jump of 6-07.5

Wilmington's final victory came in the 4x100 relay as the quartet of Sydnor, Kilgo, Jeremy Duncan (Cincinnati, OH/Archbishop Moeller) and Leevi Stump (Mount Vernon, OH/Mount Vernon) finished the distance in the time of 43.17.

Stump added three more top-five finishes for WC. He was third in the triple jump with a distance of 41-03.75, was fourth in the long jump with a distance of 21-00.50 and was fourth in the 100 in the time of 11.36.
