Wilmington competes at Kent State Gala

KENT - The Wilmington College track teams competed at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala in a season-opening non-scoring open NCAA sanctioned meet.

Sophomore Jenna Parlette (Miamisburg, OH/Miamisburg) turned in the Lady Quakers' only top-10 finish, placing ninth in the 5000-meter run in a time of 18:46.95.

The men's team recorded five top-10 finishes led by sophomore Ricky Schafer (New Richmond, OH/New Richmond), who finished second in the pole vault - but was the top collegiate performer. After passing on the first three distances, Schafer cleared 3.95 meter. He missed on his first attempt at 4.1 meter, but converted on his next distances - 4.1, 4.25 and 4.4 meters. Schafer missed all three attempts at 4.5.

Senior Mason Metts (Pomeroy, OH/Meigs) placed fifth in the shot put at 15.94 meters. The qualifying mark was achieved on his fifth of six throws. Junior Alek Erwin (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) and junior Brad Kline (Circleville, OH/Circleville) was eighth and ninth, respectively, in the one mile run. Erwin covered the distance in 4:26.56, while Kline was next in 4:27.10.

Freshman Antone Truss (Yellow Springs, OH/Yellow Springs) was tenth in the long jump with a jump of 6.17 meters.

Wilmington will take off for the school's winter break and will return to the track at the Otterbein Inviatational on January 19, 2013.
